Principal Dentist/Owner

Sue McDowallSue McDowall BDS (Birmingham) DPDS (Bristol)

Sue is a dentist as well as the practice owner. Her focus is on having the vision to move the practice forward and keep it up to date along with providing her clients with the best quality dentistry. In order to achieve this she needs a great team and Sue is proud to work with a great team of people at Newent Dental Care. Sue also has a part-time position as a clinical assistant in Orthodontics at Gloucester Royal Hospital. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her daughter Charlotte, her husband Nick McDowall (a doctor in Gloucester) with her favourite hobby being her love of horses.

Dentists

Bridget Allen BDS (London)

GDC number: 56881

Bridget graduated from the Dental School of University College London in 1982, and has worked in Gloucestershire for many years joining Newent Dental Care in 2006. She has long experience in general dental practice, enjoying the variety of work and people. Approaching each consultation with calm and care she aims to make a visit to the dentist as relaxed and as comfortable as possible. She continues to pursue post-graduate studies in a range of dental fields with Gloucestershire Independent Dentists. Bridget enjoys family life in Cheltenham and is an active member of her local Methodist church.


Thomas Jones BDS (London) MJDF(RCS Eng)

GDC number: 156291

Tom originates from South Wales, and has been practicing dentistry since 2008. He Graduated as a dentist from King’s College London Dental Institute and subsequently achieved Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties RCS England. Since qualifying Tom has gained experience in hospital oral maxillofacial surgery and the community dental service as well as general dental practice. Over the last ten years he has developed his technical skills and knowledge by attending a wide variety of courses on many different aspects of general dental practice. He enjoys keeping up to date with advancing techniques in dentistry, and is particularly looking forward to starting a year course in dental implantology as a precursor to a dental implantology course at the University of Bristol.

In his spare time Tom likes to watch rugby, spend time with family, and is an active member of a local running club.


Skaidrite Mezinska DDS (Latvia)

Skaidrite “Sky” graduated from Riga’s Stradins University in Latvia in 2003. She has been practicing in the UK since 2006 before joining the practice in July 2016 Sky was practicing in Devon. Dentistry is more than a profession to Sky, she has a special interest in Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics. Her approach is enthusiastic and caring for all her patients of all ages.

Away from the practice Sky enjoys spending time with her young family.

Dr Colin Neil BDS, MFDS RCS, MSc (Implant Dentistry), DipDentSed, MSurgDent RCS

Our visiting oral implant surgeon has provided dental implants since 2004 and is now a mentor to many dentists that refer implant treatments to him. He is able to provide all aspects of implant dentistry ranging from the fixed replacement of a single missing tooth through to replacing a full set of teeth in both jaws with fixed implant reconstruction to replace and secure loose dentures, missing teeth or problem crowns/bridges. These dental implant treatments can have truly marvellous impacts on improving our patient’s quality of life to be able to smile, chew, laugh and speak without embarrassment. Dr Colin Neil BDS, MFDS RCS, MSc (Implant Dentistry), DipDentSed, MSurgDent RCS has completed an array of postgraduate qualifications relating to oral surgery, sedation and implant dentistry including the Royal College of Surgeons specialist exit exam in surgical dentistry and for many years he has been a tutor and examiner for various courses, including the RCS Diploma in Implant Dentistry and the Masters MSc in Implant Dentistry at the University of Warwick. He receives implant and related bone/sinus grafting referrals at Confident Dental & Implant Clinic, Stroud as well as cone beam CBCT 3D scanning and sedation facilities if required and provides peripatetic dental implant surgery to our patients here at Newent Dental Care.

 

Hygienists

Freya CollinsFreya Collins Diploma in Dental Hygiene

GDC No. 5868

Freya worked and qualified as a Dental nurse working within Hereford hospital oral department, prior to retraining and qualifying as a Dental Hygienist from Birmingham Dental Hospital in 2001. She has worked with exclusive private as well as NHS Dental practices since qualification largely in London, before returning to the area. She particularly likes to help patients who are anxious to overcome their nerves and put them at ease during treatment.

Outside of the practice she enjoys travelling with her daughters and has learnt to ride motor bike!

 

Hannah Temple-BradleyHannah Temple-Bradley Diploma in Dental Hygiene

GDC No. 1677

Hannah has many years experience in both private and NHS practices. She initial joined the practice as a locum hygienist; she now works alternate Saturday’s alongside Freya. She has a caring manner and is very aware of more nervous patients and understanding how dentistry has changed over the years, Hannah is able to relate with many older patients that may have had a negative experience.

Hannah is not local to Newent, therefore is very much enjoying getting to know the town and surrounding area. When she isn’t improving patients Oral Health she loves spending time with her little dog and her other interests lie in artistic activities, both within an art group and as an active member of a community choir.

Practice Manager

Sam McDonnellSam McDonnell NEBDN Nat Cert Dental Nursing, Cert Rad, Dip DPM

Sam has enjoyed a wide and varied service within the dental profession for over 24 years yet still seeks continuous progression and improvement. Since the early days of passing her National Dental Nursing Cert Qualification (NEBDN), Sam has gained her National Certificate in Radiography and a Level 4 Diploma in Dental Practice Management. Through Attendance of numerous Nationally Certified health and mentoring workshops, Sam has delivered clinics in fluoride application and has introduced and trained countless Dental Nurses. As a military wife, Sam has enjoyed frequent moves throughout Europe and the UK which has placed her within numerous specialist teams and has exposed her to most every facet of dentistry. Having finally settled in the Forest of Dean, Sam joined the Newent Dental Care team in October 2015 and is enjoying life back in a civilian practice; especially in a close community setting. Sam is passionate about ensuring a vibrant and happy practice where both staff and patients feel part of a family.

In her limited spare time, Sam loves spending time with her family; she also indulges her other passion for training and working her 6 spaniels.

Nurses

Julie BoutcherJulie Boutcher NEBDN National Certificate in Dental Nursing(Gloucestershire)

GDC number: 128445

Julie has been part of the team at Newent Dental Care for nearly twenty years and has been a qualified dental nurse for fifth teen years.  She loves the interaction she has with Newent Dental Care clients and assists the dentists at the practice. 

In her free time she enjoys gardening, reading, walking the dog and spending time with her family.

 

Eleanore Chance – Trainee Dental Nurse

“Ellie” joined the team as a trainee Dental Nurse in July 2016. She is in her final stages of her studies with just two more exams to do! She especially enjoys assisting the dentist in surgery and interacting with all the patients.

In her spare time Ellie enjoys meeting up with friends and family and riding her horse Fifi.

Hollie has been at the practice as a trainee Dental nurse since April 2017, she was a nursery nurse for 3 years before joining the practice and is very happy to have made the career move but is still a great success with the younger patients. She enjoys learning new skills and assisting the dentist in surgery and interacting with all the patients.

In her spare time, she enjoys to sing and hopes it will lead her to exciting opportunities in the future.
